A younger son of a minor branch of House Rougecarpe, Sam was expected to help his mother reach the center of Ishgard society by becoming a temple knight or a member of the clergy. he wanted neither of these things.A few years after the Calamity, he fled his mother's increasing demands, leaving home with a few handfuls of gil and a sword stolen from the family armory. He eventually wound up in Ul'dah, where a cutpurse promptly relieved him of both gil and sword.A few days later, Sam enlisted with the Gladiators' Guild. He attained several victories in his matches as the Red Herring of Coerthas, but his true success was in capturing the hearts of Ul'dah's tween population.

Sam Lore

The tweens established an unofficial fanclub and still post fliers and share leaflets with news and pictures of him around town. The Fishers' Guild in Limsa also heard about him, and established an official club, with proceeds from merchandise sales helping to pay for his equipment.The two clubs loathe each other. Sam does not know about either one.He recently hung up his sandals and now wanders across Eorzea with his chocobo, Syldra, and Streudel.Sam is haunted by the idea he might be a heretic. Something he does not understand has been calling him since the Calamity, and he hopes in his wanderings to learn what it might be.
